Design and performance of phase-lock loops capable of near-optimum performance over a wide range of input signal and noise levels : Progress Report No. 20-243, 1954 Dec 1.

Title page is marked ORDCIT Project Contract No. DA-04-495-Ord 18 Department of the Army Ordnance Corps. The abstract reads : Phase-lock loops, which are phase-sensitive servos capable of efficiently detecting narrow-band signals in the presence of wide-band noise, have been designed utilizing Wiener[alpha]s theory of filtering. The behavior of phase-lock loops preceded by limiters has been the oretically investigated and shown to be near-optimum, even if the input-noise and input-signal levels deviate considerably from the design levels used in the Wiener equation. The theoretical analysis has been experimentally verified, and a simplified design procedure for phase-lock loops preceded by limiters is given.
